How to Have a Perfect Day

Last week, I stayed home from work to take Cody to the doctor.  Against all odds, it was the most perfect day I've had in a long time.  What made it perfect was simply having time.  We didn't have to leave for the appointment till 10:00am, so I spent the morning:

  • Building the kids a blanket fort on the couch and bringing them breakfast on a tray
  • Playing "pee buddies" with Liv (letting her drag her Bjorn potty in next to my toilet when I sat down to pee)
  • Trying a new hair product and having a resulting great hair day
  • Cleaning out the kids' closet and bagging up donations
  • Playing dress-up in my closet and settling on a very elegant doctor-visiting ensemble
  • Experimenting with wine-colored lipstick and receiving (possibly pneumonia--riddled) kisses from Cody as a show of approval
  • Singing in the car
  • Packing snacks and three books for waiting room
  • Reading aloud for twenty minutes while waiting for the doctor

We lolled in an ocean of time.  There were no tantrums from mother or child.  I loved every minute of them and they loved every minute of me.  They napped on time and I worked from home.  Time is the ultimate luxury and the only one that really matters.
